The Parable of Office Confusion

1.        And one day in the office a lady with the name of Lilly walked in.
2.       She was here for the job that had once been Steve's.
3.       And as Lilly walked in with her belongings everyone sitting in the cubicles stopped and watched her.
4.       And a few of her new coworkers looked friendly, when others looked extremely angry.
5.       And as the days went on the misanthrope coworkers blamed her for Steve losing his job.
6.       And the days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
7.       And as time went on, they alleged that she was coming into work late and not doing the job that was assigned to her.
8.       And Lilly tried to slough off all of the incorrect accusations from her coworkers.
9.       And one day her boss, Mr. Johnson, heard what Lilly’s coworkers were saying about her.
10.    He decided that he needed to call her into his office and have a talk about her work ethic.
11.     And when Lilly was called in to Mr. Johnson’s office she thought that he was calling her in to congratulate her on the account that she had just closed the day before.
12.    And as Lilly took a seat in his office she could not believe the words he was saying.
13.    Mr. Johnson said he had heard that Lilly had repeatedly come into work late. He also said that she was not the doing the job that she had been hired for.
14.    And when he was finishing his tirade he said that she had 60 days to show him that she deserved the job she had.
15.    And as Lilly walked out of the Mr. Johnson’s office she was determined to show everyone that they underestimated her.
16.     And as the days went on Lilly stayed late and worked harder than she ever had at any job.
17.    And the days tuned into weeks and before she knew it there were only two weeks left in her 60 days.
18.    And when the deadline was only a week away Mr. Johnson looked at all the reports of the accounts closed in the last 4 months.
19.    And what he saw greatly shocked him.
20.   And he realized that Lilly had closed more accounts in the last 5 months than any other employee.
21.    And the day that the 60 days were over Mr. Johnson called Lilly into his office to tell her what her fate was.
22.   And when Lilly walked in and sat down, what Mr. Johnson told her she never dreamed of him saying to her.
23.   And when they were finished Mr. Johnson called a meeting for all the employees.
24.   And here Mr. Johnson told everyone that Lilly was one of the best workers in the office, and had closed more accounts in the last 5 months than any of them had.
25.    And as Mr. Johnson was saying this, the employees that had lied and made things up about Lilly realized just what they had done.

26.   When they meeting was over Lilly’s coworkers came up to her and apologized about judging her before they knew her.

Sonnet 1
Every day, not matter the condition,
Every second of every minute,
I cannot live without the addiction.
Over and over there is always an end.
The words and pages,
The lives and thoughts,
The days and nights always have conclusions.
There is ever a day that I do not dive,
 Into the lives of another.
Every day I leave this world,
Find another set of eyes to see further,
And live a different life.
Without my daily journey,
I would not be Audrey.

The Parson
 ~Day -12~
Well it is day 12 on our journey and we have all gotten to know each other fairly well.  At first when we a started to get to know each other all we wanted was for the others to see our good qualities and never the bad.  As the days went on I started to notice the, how should I say this, the not so good qualities in people. Let’s talk the nun for example, at first I thought that she was just like any other nun, wanting to help the poor and that she cared for the better of the group and not so much about herself.  Within a few days I started to notice that she was feeding her animals food that was perfect for the not so fortunate, and poor. When I asked her why she was feeding them good food her reply was, “Well you don’t think that my dogs should be eating just as well as we are. What do you suggest I feed them, scraps?” With this statement I realized she is not your average nun.
About three days ago we were on the move and one of the peasant girls tripped and broke her arm. A couple of people such as the nun and the Summoner wanted to just keep going and leave her behind. I being the man that I am insisted we stop to help the girl, she was in obvious pain and could not go on.  I talked to the Doctor and asked him what he thought we should do and he said stop so he could set her arm. Now the doctor is the kind of man that likes his money but that is not all he thinks about, he is also concerned about his patients and how he can help them. Once the Doctor and myself convinced everyone that the girl needed help and that she would not be able to continue on without it, most of the group agreed to stop.  At the end of today I realized that there are many types of people on this journey and depending on how well we get along will depend on how enjoyable this trip is going to be.

Great depression entertainment

Entertainment, people can’t live without it.  No matter if you are young, old or some were in-between, entertainment is always a round us. During the Great Depression the same was then is it is now. They may not have had all the different ways to get entertainment as we do now but it was everywhere. During the 1930’s they had movies, radios, dances as their main source of entertainment. The first radio came out in 1927 but did not become popular until 1930.  One of the songs that was popular during the time was “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land.” When you listen to the song or read the lyrics you see just how much it described that time in history. People that had moved to California just wanted to have a small piece of land to raise their kids on. When they arrived, they did not get the welcome party they may have wanted.

“Now the cars of the guests began to arrive, small farmers and their families, migrants from other camps.” When word got around that there was going to be a dance no matter how big or small everyone from everywhere showed up. It was a way for people to forget about their troubles even if it was only for a few hours. “Ma and Rose of Sharron sat on a bench and watched. And as each boy asked Rose of Sharron as partner, Ma said, ‘No she ain’t well.” Even when people weren’t able to dance the music and being around people that were having fun made life just a little bit easier for them.

Poe and Romanticism

Poe is and will forever be one of the greatest writers of all time. When Poe wrote he incorporated the world around him and also what he was feeling at the time.  During the Romanticism time period people liked incorporating nature and how it related to human emotion. Poe being the writer that he was took this idea to a whole new level and didn't really care what people thought about it. He wrote what he felt and though at the time in his life.

When reading "The Fall of the House of Usher" Poe uses many  of these characteristics. One of the most obvious places in the story were Poe but all of these emotions is when he is talking about putting Madeline in the tomb alive "..He sprang furiously to his feet , and shrieked out his syllables, as if in effort he were giving up his soul - "Madman! I tell you that she now stands without the door!"." As Poe is saying this you can imagine the look of bewilderment and horror on Roderick  face. Roderick realizes that they have put his sister in the tomb alive and she has been in there for seven days. This shows Romanticism in the supernatural fact because no normal human being that is on their death bed can survive seven days with out food or water and then break out of the coffin. Another way Romanticism is show in the story is earlier on when Poe is describing the painting on the wall. there are two meanings behind it. the first is the obvious a dark and lonely tunnel that is not lit but some how had rays of light coming from somewhere. The other, deeper meaning is that this picture was a perfect description of Roderick's mind and how he has been locked away in it for years. He has not left his home in many years and just sits and talks to himself. As you read this story you realize just how said and lonely every one is and how Roderick does not want to be the last one of his family on the earth.

Overall Poe has some of the best writings from this time period. The fact that he was not afraid to write about what he was think or feeling is what i think makes him on f the greatest writers.

Edgar Allan Poe

Born in Boston on January 19, 1809 Edgar Allan Poe was the second oldest out of three children.  He had a brother named William Henry and a sister named Rosalie.  When Poe was at the age of two his mother died on December 8, 1811. Poe was taken in by John and Frances Allan. William Henry was taken in by their grandparents, and Rosalie was cared for by foster parents. As Poe got older he was taught in private academics and did extremely well in Latin. When Poe was old enough to go to college John Allan would only help pay for half of the cost. Soon Poe started gambling to help pay for the tuition but instead ended up in a whole lot of debt. When he returned home he found out that is fiancĂ©e had found a new guy and was engaged to be married. After finding out this devastating news Poe was, as you can imagine heart broken. When Poe was 27 years old he married his 13 year old cousin, Virginia Clemm.  When Poe said “We loved with a love that was more than love” you can see that they were happily married. Virginia died in the year of 1847.  Poe died on October 7, 1849. In the year of 1846 Poe wrote one of his most famous poems The Raven. Teachers still have their student read this poem today and it will continue to be read in classrooms all over for many years to come.

When Thomas Jefferson said this he was saying the only way to know what is real and true in life, you have to be true to yourself and others around you. He is also saying that you can't cut yourself short, if you want people to believe in you then you have to believe in you first.
